Introduction to classical music

Non-technical article

For almost a year now I’ve been listening to a lot of classical music, and I thought I’d share some of what makes me so excited about it. Here’s the piece that first really caught my attention, and is still one of my favourite pieces, Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto:

For me, I get the most out of it by listening (and optionally watching the performance), and doing nothing else. Classical music is no longer background music for me. In fact, it has become the most distracting form of music when I want to get work done. If you have the time, I hope you’ll at least listen to the first movement (the first 20-ish minutes of the video). This first movement contains the most beautiful melody I’ve heard in any piece. Enjoy.
